Lauren, INELDA-trained end-of-life doula and founder of Aevia End-of-Life Care

Hi, I'm Lauren.

For much of my life, I have been fascinated by end-of-life practices. Even as a child, I noticed how often death was treated as taboo and how much fear and discomfort surrounded conversations about it. I knew that I wanted to change this. That one of life’s most difficult transitions could be approached differently—with greater openness, dignity, and compassion.

Questions & Clarity About Your Journey

Death comes with many questions. Here are the most common things individuals and their families ask as they prepare for this transition.

  • An end-of-life doula is a non-medical support person who provides emotional, practical, and educational support to individuals and families before or during the dying process. A doula can help you prepare for what to expect, explore your wishes, navigate difficult conversations, create meaningful rituals or legacy projects, and provide a calm presence throughout the experience.

  • No. Aevia provides non-medical end-of-life support and does not diagnose conditions, administer medications, provide medical treatment, or replace your healthcare or hospice team. That is outside our scope of practice.

  • Hospice provides medical care for people approaching the end of life, including symptom and pain management. End-of-Life doulas do not replace hospice or medical professionals. Instead, we complement their care by focusing on the emotional, practical, and personal aspects of the experience and often have more time to provide individualized support to the dying person and their loved ones.

  • Some people reach out following a terminal diagnosis, while others begin planning long before the end of life is near. Families may also seek support when a loved one begins declining or during the final days of life. You do not need to be enrolled in hospice or actively dying to work with Aevia.

  • There is no standard visit because every person's needs are different. We might spend time talking through concerns, discussing wishes, working on a legacy project, helping family members understand what to expect, creating a more peaceful environment, or simply sitting together. Presence is sometimes the most valuable form of support.

  • Yes. Aevia is not affiliated with any particular religion or spiritual tradition. ALL ARE WELCOME. Spirituality can be incorporated if it is meaningful to you, but it is never assumed or imposed.
