Lauren, founder and end-of-life doula at Aevia, offering compassionate support

Hi, I'm Lauren.

For much of my life, I have been fascinated by end-of-life practices. Even as a child, I noticed how often death was treated as taboo and how much fear and discomfort surrounded conversations about it. I knew that I wanted to change this. That one of life’s most difficult transitions could be approached differently—with greater openness, dignity, and compassion. Years later, I decided to put my bakery business on hold and explore healthcare by becoming a certified nursing assistant.

While caring for people at the end of life, I saw firsthand how overwhelming it can be for individuals and their loved ones to navigate the complexities that often come with dying. There are practical decisions to make, emotions that can be difficult to put into words, questions families may not know to ask, and often an enormous amount of uncertainty. I also discovered how much of a difference it made when someone was simply offering their presence—someone willing to listen without judgment, offer reassurance, help make sense of what was happening, and remain present when things felt difficult.

Those experiences stayed with me. I knew I wanted to create something devoted solely to making the end of life feel less confusing, less isolating, and more dignified, with a focus on each individual's unique needs and preferences.

I believe that dying deserves to be approached with the same intention and care that we bring to every other meaningful passage in life. My role is not to define or enforce what I believe to be a “good death,” but to help individuals and families discover what matters most to them and feel supported in honoring those wishes.

Whether that means preparing for what lies ahead, creating a comforting environment, preserving memories and stories, sitting quietly at the bedside, or simply having someone there who is unafraid to talk about death, my hope is to provide a steady presence through it all.

While we may not be able to change the inevitability of death, we can most certainly change the way we experience it.

My Approach to End-of-Life Care

That is why I created Aevia.

My Approach to End-of-Life Care

That is why I created Aevia.

It was through this work that I discovered just how meaningful one person’s presence can be during life’s most vulnerable moments. Shortly after completing my training, I began working as a private hospice caregiver, an experience that profoundly changed my perspective on both life and death.
